About: Peter Braster is the City of Carrollton’s Senior Development Manager. The Senior Development Manager is a position that was created in 2012 to recognize Peter’s expanded role in Carrollton’s development process. In his new role, he continues to promote development at the three rail station areas, while actively managing the development process for the City’s 80-acre Project Raiford, overseeing the City’s multi-family redevelopment program, and several other special projects. Peter is innovating the way Carrollton attracts investment by actively engaging in social media and by targeting commercial investors both here and abroad.
As the city’s first Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Manager, Peter negotiated and managed Carrollton’s first public/ private partnership. The City’s partnership with Trammell Crow High Street Residential has seen the first new large scale mixed-use development in Downtown Carrollton. Now leasing, the apartments have Carrollton’s highest rental rate and is the site of Carrollton’s newest restaurant – Twisted Root - opening in late June 2013. The huge success of Phase 1 has already launched Phase 2 of the project a full year earlier than projected.
Peter was also instrumental in attracting two new multi-family developments that will soon start construction at the North Carrollton Station along Frankford Road. These two projects will add over 400 units of housing between the station and Carrollton’s Indian Creek Golf Course. This year, Peter will lead a joint effort by the City and DART to undertake the City’s largest joint development project at Trinity Mills Station. A Request for Proposals is expected to be released in May 2013 for the 26-acre mixed-use site.
Mr. Braster has over 26 years of public and private experience. He began his career in engineering by working on large transportation projects including several highway, airport, and light rail systems in New York and California. In addition, he has managed real property, real estate acquisition, public administration and governmental relations. Mr. Braster holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. Peter is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and ULI North Texas’ TOD Product Council.
